The exhibit, Defenders of the Gate: A Soldier’s Story, was guest curated in partnership with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and was at the San Francisco History Expo, located inside the historic old San Francisco Mint, from March 1-2, 2014.

The exhibit included objects and archives representing nearly 150 years of military history in the San Francisco Bay Area. Displayed together with wall panels and object labels, the items collectively told the soldier’s story through the lens of their daily lives. Focusing on the main themes of work, life, and war, Defenders of the Gate: A Soldier’s Story brought to life the often-untold histories of the men and women who defended not only their country but the San Francisco Bay Area as well.
